"Circular Circulation Installation" new moon note September 2024

The September new moon has arrived, and although it has been very hot for a while, autumn-like days are gradually appearing. This summer has been really hot. I feel like I say this every year. This month's special juice is "Rhubarb and Paprika", which has many fans. The rhubarb from Sun Friend Farm in Yatsugatake is very popular at this time of year every year. This rhubarb has a good balance of acidity and is rich in nutrients, and is made into a fresh juice. You may not be able to imagine what the juice blended with paprika will taste like, but when you drink it, it is very easy to drink and delicious. I hope everyone will try it and have a new juice experience.
The other day, I participated in the Yamagata Biennale . This time, rather than setting up a booth, I was more conscious of "doing something" there (=be there and share what I do). I drove 6 hours to Yamagata in my Sunshine Juice mobile sales vehicle , which runs on used oil and is commonly known as the "Tempura Car," which I've been working on for the past few years. The used oil this time was left by Yoiyo restaurant in Kochi Prefecture, Yoroccco Beer Pub in Kamakura, and Breakfast Club in Nakameguro. I filtered it and made it into gasoline. The roof of the vehicle is also fitted with solar panels that generate power, and this solar energy is used to run the juice machine and squeeze the juice. (That's why we were able to make juice in such a wonderful natural environment.) The only ingredients used for the juice are vegetables and fruits grown in Yamagata. As I wrote last month , plants are the "water tanks" of the land. In autumn, Yamagata has apples, pears, grapes, as well as tomatoes, peppers, and myoga ginger, and I think that the blend of these was very delicious and environmentally harmonious juice (=water) that everyone enjoyed. In addition, this time we also set up a compost station next to the vehicles, where customers who drank the juice could experience returning all the pomace and plant waste from other exhibitors to the soil, creating a space circulation loop together.
As I wrote at the beginning, this time the main focus of the stall was not selling juice, but rather how to show and feel everything holistically. Several people told me that this was an "installation," and I felt like I understood that very well.
By definition, an “installation” is “one that uses an entire space or environment and is intended to invite the audience into the experience.”
They are often created by combining various media and materials, such as lighting, sound, video, objects, and technology, and appeal to the five senses, including hearing, touch, and sometimes even smell, in addition to sight. The goal is to provoke an emotional or physical response in the audience to the space, or to help them understand a particular theme or concept through experience.
What kind of image do you have of the word "circulation"? For me it's the feeling of "connecting." Where does it come from and how do we connect it? There's no black box in between, and everything is clearly understood. This time it's a Sunshine Juice-style circulation (=connecting) installation. I hope that by having everyone participate and experience what we do and are conscious of in our daily lives, we can appeal to various senses, including taste, and that it will lead to some new realizations.
The act of drinking juice is to take in the energy of nature and directly "connect" with the land. I would be happy if this experience could make not only your body but also your mind and spirit a little healthier. I would like people to know the background so that they can feel this simple juice experience more deeply. And I would like to connect with the wonderful minds who can connect with producers and used oil. And through juice and compost, I would like to experience a "connection" with plants and microorganisms in the soil, invisible voiceless creatures, and share that feeling by entering the cosmic circulation loop. I would like to continue this "installation" by further improving it in the future.
September announcement.
